What is BSL?

Breed-specific legislation is a law or ordinance passed by a legislative body pertaining to a specific breed or breeds of domesticated animals. In practice, it generally refers to laws or ordinances pertaining to a specific dog breed or breeds. In laymen’s terms, this is legislation that restricts your right to own the breed of your choice. It concentrates on the breed rather than owner responsibility, where the focus SHOULD be.

Guess which dog is a Pit Bull (no cheating!)

Another good one to test out people’s pit bull guessing skills!

The above two links are perfect examples of why BSL is so dangerous. MOST of the dogs you will see in those links are not pit bull/pit bull mixes or any derivative of the targeted breeds. Yet left up to the discretion of animal control officers (some with absolutely no experience), they can be deemed so just by physical appearance and put to sleep. They won’t take that dog’s demeanor into account, how sweet and friendly that dog may be. They will destroy that dog based on breed (or supposed breed!) alone.

Now THAT is scary stuff!
